Background:

Supernatural beings are organized in the following way: The most powerful are the Gods, under them exist Angels and Arch Angels (or demons and Arch-Demons) and finally there are Immortals. The Gods are extremely powerful supernatural forces whose powers keep the universe in existence.

The Gods (Bythos and Samael) are like the forces that bind the universe together -- they are intelligent but have no real physical manifestation. They do not speak human languages (they don't directly talk but their thoughts and intentions are understood in a special language of the Gods). Their existence is all encompassing. People understand that they exist but they have no personal connection to them. They use their symbols to illustrate general ideas (order, chaos) but do not pray directly to these gods. All power in the world is derived from either of these gods, either creative powerful (from Bythos), or destructive power (from Samael). They generally have no interest in the day to day lives of people or events in one particular world. Both Gods effect the existence of the entire universe (although only Gnostaria is known to have intelligent life).

Under the Gods exist many Angels or Demons. Angels and Demons are the same type of supernatural beings and only distinguished by where their power comes from (Angels take their power from Bythos and Demons from Samael). Angels and Demons come in two forms, Arch-Angels / Arch-Demons, and regular Angels / Demons. The Arch Angels/Demons are generally far more powerful and giant in size. Regular Angels and Demons are much smaller, but many are still large compared to animals in nature.

Most Angels and Demons have the power to manifest themselves as humans or other human-like beings in order to disguise themselves when trying to influence regular mortals.

Angels and Demons hold sway over different forces of nature or people's minds. The Gods and Angels / Demons cannot be killed although the balance of power between them can shift. Angels and Demons cannot be harmed by regular mortals or immortals but they can harm each other. Angels and Demons can never be killed but their powers can be weakened temporarily by other Angels and Demons.

The final category of powerful beings is the Immortals. These are special people, beings, giants or creatures of legend. They don't hold world-altering powers like Angels and Demons but they have special powers that normal mortals do not. If an immortal is killed (they do not die from old age) their spirit will remain in Gnostaria and they can eventually be resurrected back into a physical body.

Moons

The moons of Gnostaria can be seen in the sky but they are not like the moon that goes around the Earth. Gnostaria has two moons: The Black Moon and the White Moon. These are manifestations of domains where the angels and demons exist.

White Moon:

The white moon looks like the moon that revolves around the earth. It is a large white sphere that looks to have grey craters on it. It is glowing bright white. Part of the moon has been damaged by an ancient battle of Angels and Demons and a small field of white meteors floats around it. This is the realm of angels and archangels (servants of Bythos).

New Black Moon:

This moon looks like it is made of black obsidian (very dark and smooth) with a strange red glow around the edges. It is difficult to see in the sky at night because it is solid black. This is the realm of demons (minions of Samael). It is directly opposite the White Moon in the sky.

First Black Moon:

The first black moon existed as the realm of demons millions of years ago. The First Black Moon looks like a smooth black obsidian sphere with giant intersecting gold rings around it (one ring is vertical and the other is horizontal so that they form an X or + when they intersect). The gold rings have demonic runes written on them. After a major event that has been lost to history (there is no recorded evidence) the first Black Moon crashed into Gnostaria and submerged into the core of the world. Occasionally a ghost image of the first Black Moon can be seen in the night sky.
