RelthazeanRelthazean is the current Lich Lord, personal servant of Skell. He has served in this role for approximately 10,000 years. His soul belongs to an individual from a previous civilization that has since been destroyed by the last Dark Century.

Relthazean is the undead name of this individual. When he was human he had a regular name, although that name has been lost to history.

As a man he was among the top clerics of a religious order dedicated to protecting people of their local towns and specifically fighting undead. This order was broken into Knights, who were the warriors and guardians of the Order and Clerics, who were the religious leaders. All members of the order were trained fighters so the Clerics would fight alongside the Knights in times of great tragedy.

The Clerics were organized into various regional councils and this organization spanned a large part of the known world. Often a single Cleric was responsible for a single town, but he would communicate frequently with Clerics from other towns.

The man that would eventually become Relthazean was one of the youngest to become a Cleric, defending a small outpost named Vinton Wharf that is not far from modern-day Milstone. He quickly rose through the ranks and was hailed as one of the top Clerics of his time.

While this order of knights and clerics often taught humility and patience there existed some within the inner ranks who had put their personal ambitions over their own duties. The high council of clerics, the ruling council of all the regional and town clerics, would elect members to its inner circle. The man, who was to become Relthazean, while not as selfish as some of the worst in the group, still had hopes of becoming elected to the council.

Ultimately a betrayal by one of his other clerics, someone he considered a close friend, caused him to lose his chance at joining the High Council. He grew very angry and his anger made his soul vulnerable to the demons of Samael. Seeing a great opportunity the demon Skell visited this man who was resting out in a forest by himself, still consumed with anger. Skell appeared as a hooded man in robes and began to put ideas into his head.

Eventually this cleric, influenced by the demon Skell, let his angry grow into blood lust, rather than coming to his senses. He eventually went on a murderous spree, killing the former friend who had betrayed him as well as others among the High Council of the order.

For a brief moment he became remorseful of his actions, but Skell continued to weave his spell and his sorrow turned in to a lust for great power. With his natural skill and talent as one of the best clerics among this order as well as his warped mind from the influence of demons, the man pledged his complete alliance to the demons and willingly became the Lich Lord Relthazean. He then transformed from a mortal man to an immortal lich, his humanity stripped from him, his body becoming reduced only to skeleton bones. He was given legendary armor that both bound his soul and granted him great power, and he received the demon-crafted Midnight Star – a morning star-type weapon that was dark black and radiating with strange red energy.

Relthazean immediately went on a rampage, commanding hordes of the undead to strike against the people and towns close to him. The council of Clerics and Knights was still strong enough to fight off this invasion and locked Relthazean away.

Just over 500 years ago (just before the last Dark Century), Relthazean was resurrected and, with the help of his demon master Skell, as well as the Arch-Demon Dae Ur'Surpentia, launched a massive attack against the region, especially targeting the area of a great trading town named Vinton's Landing (a larger city that had developed around the small trading outpost previously known as Vinton's Wharf). These demons, working on the behalf of Samael, sought to disturb the balance of the universe and prematurely initiate the Dark Century.

The council of knights and clerics had been disbanded several hundred years before this and were unable to assist in this invasion. Despite the efforts of the demons, order prevailed. Through the effort of many great heroes the town was saved and Relthazean's body physically destroyed. His legendary Midnight Star was also claimed by the heroes and kept as a relic by a veteran priest.

Like all immortals, Relthazean's physical death did not lead to his complete destruction. His cursed soul still exists and, with the aid of demons or from the actions of men using magic powers and necromancy, he can be returned to the physical world. Most of the history of Relthazean has been lost and even the location of his Midnight Star is no longer known.
